Stroke Awareness – Act FAST

Think and act F.A.S.T., the signs of stroke are:

  • Face – has their face fallen on one side? Can they smile?
  • Arms – can they raise both their arms and keep them there?
  • Speech – is their speech slurred?
  • Time – time to call 999

The NHS has released a new series of portraits featuring real life stroke survivors with the people who saved them (their stroke ‘savers’) by recognising the ACT F.A.S.T. signs and calling 999.

The portraits – taken by renowned Getty Royal Photographer, Chris Jackson – reflect the significant life moments the stroke survivors have lived to celebrate since their stroke, showing the crucial role a stroke ‘saver’ can have in survival.

The new images are part of the relaunched ‘Help Us, Help You’ Act F.A.S.T. campaign, supported by the Stroke Association, which highlights that stroke is a medical emergency and urges you to call 999 if you notice any signs of a stroke in themselves or others.
